Very rarely do companies extend Christmas celebrations beyond employees. But, committed to being the employer of choice, IBEX Global Jamaica stepped off the beaten path and hosted over 250 children of its employees on Sunday December 18.
The little ones – between ages 2 to 12 – were treated to all the trimmings of any respectable Fun Day: cake, ice cream, popcorn, hotdogs, cotton candy, snow cones, bounce about, and trampoline. And to top it all off, there was Santa waiting by the company Christmas tree with presents for everyone.
IBEX Global Jamaica has been getting much media attention since its official launch in October where CEO Bob Dechant promised Prime Minister Andrew Holness 5,000 jobs. The company, headed locally by BPO veteran Dalgleish Joseph (who emceed the launch), has been making waves with its employee-centric approach marked by weekly theme days, free lunch for employees, and engagement activities that make work fun.
“Our commitment to our employees goes well beyond their time spent in the office. We want to impact their lives in a meaningful way, and we believed that connecting with their families would be the best way to achieve this objective.” Mr. Joseph shared, as he paused briefly from his Santa duties.
“Our mission is to become the employer of choice in Jamaica and everything we do is governed by that mission – from our world class facility that rivals many corporate offices, impressive campus perks that we’ve negotiated for our staff, to various other initiatives like the launch of the Toastmasters club at IBEX Global Jamaica – the first Toastmasters club to be launched in a BPO center in the country. Today’s treat for the kids is an extension of that.” And the children enjoyed it thoroughly. Even parents indulged their playful side and tried out the bounce about and trampoline. The consensus was overwhelming – employees could be heard congratulating the company for a well-received event.
But IBEX Global Jamaica is not content with just spreading goodwill to employees and their families. On the heels of that event the company extended its efforts beyond the staff to spend time with the boys at the Jamaica Christian Boys home on Thursday December 29. According to Employee Engagement Program Manager Anna Edwards who coordinated both events, “After speaking with Ms. Walker who runs the home, it became apparent that this was a cause that we needed to be a part of.” The boys – ages 12 to 18 – were treated to Chinese cuisine by members of the company’s senior management team after which they were given gift bags with toiletries, toys and books. It was a great way to end the year and share with those less fortunate. And 2017 promises to be an even greater year for IBEX Global Jamaica in its quest to be the employer of choice in Jamaica.
